Samsung Galaxy A04s is the cheapest smartphone of the South Korean company, released in 2022. It has a high refresh rate display, a large battery, and a high-resolution main camera. But the manufacturer had to save on the processor, packaging, and charging speed. In today’s review, we analyze the strengths of the novelty.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy A04s has a minimalistic design. The smartphone received a one-piece plastic case with rounded edges that provide a comfortable grip.
Of the benefits – plastic is less slippery compared to glass or metal surfaces.
On the right side is a slightly recessed power button, which also serves as a fingerprint scanner, above it is the volume button. The location is convenient, within reach of the fingers. On the left, in the upper part, there is a tray that can accommodate two SIM cards and one memory card.
At the bottom, there is a USB-C port, a speaker grill, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Above is an additional microphone.
Display
The Galaxy A04s features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with a high refresh rate of up to 90Hz. However, the display resolution is not high: 720 x 1600 pixels (similar to Realme C31, Realme C33, and Tecno Spark 9 Pro for almost the same price is higher: 1080 x 2460).
The brightness of the screen is low: a maximum of 389 units (for outdoor use in direct sunlight will be small).
There is no physical proximity sensor and no ambient light sensor. The virtual proximity sensor works worse (during a call, the screen either does not turn off or does not turn on after the end of the call). And for measuring lighting conditions, the front camera is used, which is less efficient and accurate (it takes more time to respond and change the brightness of the backlight). It is easier to use manual adjustment using the slider.
Battery
Thanks to a large capacity battery (5000 mAh) and an energy-efficient chipset (Exynos 850), the battery life of the Galaxy A04s is good:
- 35 hours 8 minutes talk time.
- 16 hours and 5 minutes of surfing the Internet.
- 15 hours 39 minutes of video playback.
The smartphone supports standard 15W charging, but there is no adapter included. Fully Samsung Galaxy A04s charges for a very long time: 2 hours 14 minutes, and in half an hour – only up to 28%.
Performance
The hardware basis of the Galaxy A04s is the Samsung Exynos 850 chip, which consists of eight low-power, energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores.
Cameras
There are three image sensors on the back of this Samsung model. The main one is 50-megapixel with Tetracell pixel binning technology (by default, images are saved at a resolution of 12.5 megapixels). A similar one is used in other smartphones of the company, for example, Galaxy A13 and M13. The sensor is equipped with phase detection autofocus.
The secondary cameras are a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. In good light, the main camera takes decent pictures with good sharpness, plenty of class-leading detail, and true-to-life colors, with little to no noise. This is where the Galaxy A04s outperforms the competition.
