A versatile tablet that will emphasize your individuality. The iPad Air 2022, also known as the iPad Air 5, is set to take the place of the Air 2020. This model featured a striking new design, more power than many expected, and was the perfect showcase for iPadOS. The new Air is essentially the same thing, but with a more powerful processor. Supports 5G and features a brand-new front camera for better video calls.
Design
The design of the iPad Air 2022 will impress you the moment you pick it up. Sharp, angular edges are not painful to hold in your hands – they give the feeling of a premium device. The anodized aluminum, which comes in a variety of colors, is smooth to the touch, and the flat edges make it easy to attach your Apple Pencil to the side for storage and charging.
Display
The 10.9-inch screen is great for portability, and you’ll quickly get used to the smaller size compared to a typical laptop – unless you regularly use spreadsheets or navigate websites that require a wider zoom to see.
Specifications and performance
In terms of hardware specs, the iPad Air 2022 is very close in performance to the iPad Pro, which is impressive.
The main issue that most will have with iPad Air specs is that 64GB of storage just isn’t enough in 2022. Download a few movies, games, and heavy applications, and there will be no trace of memory left. But here’s where Air really surprised us so it’s in the processor – M1.
Another key spec is 5G support, which means if you go for the more expensive iPad Air model, you can get lightning-fast data transfer speeds on the go. Apple is talking about this as a big upgrade, but most people will be using the tablet in Wi-Fi mode, and considering the price, it’s safe to say that 5G will be included in the cellular version.
Apple Pencil
Apple Pencil is useful, and for some, a necessary addition to the purchased iPad. The range of things it can do is from double-tapping to switching between eraser and pen to an impressive range of pressure sensitivity levels in photo editing apps.
iPadOS
iPadOS 15.4 is a nice, iterative update to Apple’s tablet operating system, with a few changes to make it easier to use. With iPadOS 15, you can do most tasks without worrying about some windows resizing, some moving to another screen, and some just annoyingly hovering over the top.
Camera
The camera on the back of the iPad Pro is a 12MP single sensor without a Lidar sensor, which is more than enough for a tablet in this price segment. Thanks to the M1 chip combined with a good sensor, the rear camera shots look great, with plenty of color, sharpness, and depth.
The image becomes a little grainy when zoomed in, but keep in mind that most shots must be taken to support the app’s features, such as taking a quick shot for editing. However, the f/1.8 camera is also good enough for taking photos in low light, so the Air can do the job in most situations.
